R.B. "Beverly" Laws, who retired as Deputy Chief of the Austin, Texas Police Department in 1978, donated this collection to the Austin History Center in 1977. The records pertain chiefly to the City of Austin Utilities Department and reflect the water issues emerging in the 1890s. Until 1871, all water in Austin was supplied by private wells and public and private cisterns.
